Invisible & Discreet
Discretion matters to a lot of people considering hearing aids for the first time. Here is what “invisible” actually means, and whether it suits you.

The Basics
The most discreet styles are Invisible-In-Canal (IIC) and Completely-In-Canal (CIC) hearing aids. Both are custom-moulded to sit deep within your ear canal, based on an impression taken by your audiologist. An IIC sits deeper still, often reaching close to the eardrum, which is what allows it to sit almost out of sight even close up. A CIC is very similar but slightly larger and slightly more visible at the canal opening.
Because they sit inside the ear canal rather than behind or in the outer ear, most people around you would not notice you are wearing one. Some wearers also find that the natural shape of the ear canal helps sound feel more natural, since it is picked up close to the eardrum.
Pros & Cons
Sits deep in the canal, close to unnoticeable for many wearers.
Sound is picked up close to the eardrum, which some find more natural.
Tiny batteries and controls can be harder to handle for some people.
Ear canal shape and size affects whether IIC/CIC will fit well.
Who It Suits
IIC and CIC styles generally suit people with mild to moderate hearing loss and ear canals large enough to accommodate a custom-moulded device comfortably. They are usually less suitable for profound hearing loss, where a more powerful behind-the-ear style may work better, and they can be fiddlier to insert, remove and maintain for people with limited dexterity or eyesight.
A qualified audiologist will check your ear canal during your assessment and let you know honestly whether an invisible style is a realistic option, rather than trying to sell you a style that will not work well for your ears.

Often yes, because they are custom-made to fit your ear canal precisely. See our hearing aid costs page for typical price ranges.
No — it depends on the size and shape of your ear canal and your level of hearing loss. A hearing assessment will confirm whether IIC or CIC suits you.
The smaller size means smaller batteries and controls, which some people find fiddlier, particularly if dexterity or eyesight is a challenge. Your audiologist can talk through rechargeable options too.
